LNG is primarily methane (typically 85–95%), but contains small amounts of ethane, propane and other hydrocarbons. LNG contains trace amounts of nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The exact composition of LNG may vary depending on the source of the natural gas and the liquefaction process used.

The introduction of dual-fuel engines on Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) tankers & LNG fueled ships has significantly improved operational flexibility but added new challenges from handling and insurance perspective.

Nitrogen lowers the heating value of natural gas and increases transport volumes, reducing the calorific values of the natural gas due to its inert nature.

UK P & I club has released some guidance on the subject.

There are no clear answers but the practice adopted by the LNG carriers has been to use the forcing vaporiser for 2-3 days and steaming at high speed after loading LNG at the load port helps for the LNG carriers can be adopted by the LNG fueled ships as well.
